Wet compression bandage

You have been given a wet compression bandage in order to prevent or to reduce an infection. You should follow the advice below to help your recovery.

  • When you go home, you should soak the bandage thoroughly in cold running tapwater.
  • The bandage must be soaked through and feel cold. You can keep it like this by making it wet again every two hours.
  • You can protect your mattress by covering it with a plastic bag on top of which you can place a large towel.
Important
  • Do not wrap the affected part of your body in plastic as the heat so generated can cause an infection.
  • Keep the bandaged part of your body as still as possible.
