Eyelid after the operation - Instructions for treatment

Instructions for the treatment of your eyelid after the operation

  1. Take things easy on the day that you have had the operation. We advise you to spend the rest of the day either sitting or lying down.
  2. On the days immediately following the operation, you must not do any heavy work. You must not bend down, lift anything or do any sport.
  3. You must not drink any drinks containing alcohol for two days after the operation.
  4. In the first week, the area surrounding your eye will be swollen. This swelling is often accompanied by blue/purple discolouration.
  5. After the operation, you will be given a bottle of special fluid and gauze dressings. On the first day following the operation, you should moisten one of these dressings with the fluid and place it gently on your eyelid. You can repeat this several times. This not only feels pleasant but also absorbs any blood in the area, has a cooling effect and helps to reduce the swelling.
  6. You are allowed to take a shower.
  7. If you have any plasters on the scars, leave them on. However, if the itching is troublesome, you can remove them four days after the operation.
  8. You have been given an appointment to have the stitches removed at the Plastic Surgery Outpatients' Department.
  9. It is probably a good idea to wear sunglasses until the swelling and bruising have disappeared.

If you have any questions, you can contact the Plastic Surgery Outpatients' Department, telephone number 070 - 312 44 99.
