Bowel preparation with Bisacodyl® and Moviprep®

You have been scheduled for a sigmoidoscopy or coloscopy. Both examinations require a bowel preparation, consisting of a diet and a schedule for emptying the bowels. We request you to carefully follow the instructions below.  

When your appointment was confirmed, you were also given a prescription for the laxatives. We recommend that you submit these prescriptions to your local pharmacy in good time. Please read the patient information leaflet of the laxatives carefully before using them. This leaflet describes how to prepare Moviprep®.

Three days before the examination:
Start with a low-fibre diet:

• Avoid vegetables that contain fibres, such as asparagus, leeks, French beans, raw vegetables, tomatoes.
• Avoid wholemeal/grain products, such as wholemeal bread, wholemeal pasta and brown rice.
• Avoid nuts, peanuts and seeds.
• Avoid fruit types, such as kiwifruit, grapes, orange, grapefruit.

Two days before the examination:
At 22.00 hours, take two tablets of Bisacodyl® (laxative).

The day before the examination:

• Breakfast.
• 12.00 - 12.30 hours: light/liquid lunch (for example, soup with a bread roll).
  Important: You may no longer eat solid food from the moment you start taking Moviprep® until after the examination.
• Between 14.30 - 16.30 hours: the first litre of Moviprep®, alternated with half a litre of clear fluids (tea without milk, coffee without milk, clear soup, clear fruit juice and water).
• Between 16.30 - 17.30 hours: rest period, drinking clear fluids is allowed.
• Between 17.30 - 19.30 hours: the second litre of Moviprep®, alternated with half a litre of clear fluids.
• As from 19.30 hours: drinking clear fluids is allowed (at least half a litre).    

The day of the examination:

• Drinking clear fluids is allowed until one hour before the examination.  

If the examination takes place in the afternoon (after 12.30 hours), you have to do the following:

The day before the examination:

• Breakfast.
• 12:00 - 12:30 hours: normal lunch.
  Important: You may no longer eat solid food from the moment you start taking Moviprep® until after the examination.
• Between 17.00 - 19.00 hours: the first litre of Moviprep®, alternated with half a litre of clear fluids (tea without milk, coffee without milk, clear soup, clear fruit juice and water).
• As from 19.00 hours: drinking clear fluids is allowed (at least half a litre).  

The day of the examination:

• Between 08.00 - 10.00 hours: the second litre of Moviprep®, alternated with half a litre of clear fluids.
• As from 10.00 hours: drinking clear fluids is allowed until one hour before the examination (at least half a litre).
