BSN in the Health System

What is a citizen service number (BSN)?
The citizen service number is a unique number for everyone who has to do with the Dutch authorities. Example: You have a citizen service number if you are registered with the Municipal Personal Records Database (Register Office) of your municipality.
The citizen service number can be used more often in the future. For example, at your municipality, your hospital, schools, with your employer or social benefit authorities. By introducing the citizen service number, the Dutch authorities want to improve their service, fight fraud and protect your privacy.

Why does Bronovo use your BSN?
From 1st. June 2009, the new law about the use of the citizen service number in the Health System (BSN in de zorg) comes into force. This means that we  - as a Hospital – and all other healthcare providers are legally obliged to check your Identity Documentation (I.D.) and Health Insurance information and to register your citizen service number.

What does this mean for you?
All (new) patients need to apply for a new blue registration card! Do you NOT have a new blue Registration Card? If so, please go to the Registration Desk in the Central Hall for a new blue card.

When is Bronovo using my BSN?
Bronovo will use your BSN with sharing/exchanging medical information. For example with sharing information with you GP.

I have objected to the exchange of my medical information via the electronic health record (EPD system). Do I still have to let my BSN be registered?
Yes, the registration of your BSN has no actual connection with the exchange of your medical information via the EPD.
