The Surgery department The Surgery department in Bronovo Hospital is staffed by seventeen surgeons in a partnership, a close collaboration between surgeons who share responsibility and thus support and replace each other. The surgeons work not only in location Bronovo Hospital but also in the Antoniushove and Westeinde hospitals of Haaglanden Medical Centre (Medisch Centrum Haaglanden). The surgeons are all members of the Association of Medical Staff in Bronovo and Haaglanden Medical Centre and the Dutch Association of Surgeons. Besides the partnership, one surgeon (who is also coordinator Accident and Emergency) and several doctors some of whom are in training as a surgeon, work within the Surgery department. These doctors are the responsibility of the partnership.

Waiting lists Due to the large number of patients, there may be some waiting time for a first appointment at the outpatient clinic. However, the waiting time does depend on the severity of the problem and can thus vary from no waiting time to 2 weeks (
average waiting times). If your general practitioner is of the opinion that you need to be seen urgently, this can always be discussed with one of the surgeons.
Please announce yourself at the secretary’s desk when arriving for an outpatient appointment. You need to show her a valid registration card. She will then sort out your paper work. You can obtain a registration card in the Central Hall of the Hospital, to the right of the entrance, at the Registration Desk. You will need an identification document. The secretary will let you know if there is a waiting time at the outpatient clinic. The outpatient clinic nurse will call your name and lead you to one of the treatment rooms.
Outpatient procedures Many small surgical procedures can be performed under local anaesthetic during the outpatient procedures consultation hours. A pre-operative examination is not necessary in this case. The secretary will make a follow-up appointment for you. There may be a waiting period, depending on the procedure. For further information about this department, please refer to outpatient operating theatres.
