Opening hours
The hospital pharmacy is open from 08.00 - 16.30 hours. A hospital pharmacist is also always available outside of opening hours.

What does the hospital pharmacy do?
The hospital pharmacy is responsible for dispensing medication in the hospital. Sometimes, patients who are not admitted in the hospital will also receive their medication from the hospital pharmacy.
The hospital pharmacy plays an important advisory role concerning use of medicines and provides doctors, nurses and other hospital employees with information. The hospital pharmacy also provides the patient with information directly.

The hospital pharmacy prepares a large number of medications. Especially the medications that are not for sale and medications made to order for the patient. Also medications that are easy to use for doctors and nurses. The hospital pharmacy is also able to save on costs by preparing these medications. The quality of medication supply is subjected to continuous quality control. The pharmacy has set up many procedures for this purpose. The employees also continuously receive additional training. Furthermore, the pharmacy has a supporting role in performing medicinal trial. The hospital pharmacy of Bronovo Hospital is allowed to train a pharmacist to become a hospital pharmacist.

Dispensing of medicines
The medicines used in Bronovo Hospital are dispensed from the hospital pharmacy. Many procedures are in place to guarantee the quality and safety, because the pharmacy does not hand the medications to the patient directly. In this way the correct medication is administered to the correct patient at the correct time.

The medications are packaged slightly differently to what one would be used to at home. Each tablet is individually packaged, so that employees can check exactly what the patient is receiving right up to the moment of administration. Medications that are used are registered by the pharmacy; so that it can control what medication the patient receives.Special medications are also administered in a hospital, which cannot be used at home. These are medications that usually require special precautions (for example cytostatic drugs used for cancer treatment).

Medication control
The hospital pharmacy continually monitors which medications a patient is prescribed (medication control). The pharmacy consults the doctor if medications may not be given together.
It is important to know what medication a patient uses at home to ensure a safe use of medication.
Our “Pharmacy Service Point (PSP)” (Apotheek Service Punt (ASP)) can, with the patient’s consent, ask the patient’s own pharmacy for information about recent medicine use. It remains important for the patient to tell the doctor or nurse which medications he/she uses. These include medicines from a chemist. This allows the hospital to check whether other medications may be used in conjunction.

Privacy
Medication details can only be read by authorised personnel: doctors, medical specialists, nurses, pharmacists and pharmacy assistants. They need these details in order to serve the patient’s needs better. Of course, they are obliged to confidentiality concerning these details.

Medications from home
Please bring any medications that you use at home along to the hospital. It is important that the doctors and nurses know which medicines you use. There is also a possibility that the pharmacy does not have your medication in stock. In the event of this happening, you will temporarily continue to use you own supply.
The Pharmacy Service Point in Bronovo Hospital, a collaboration between the hospital and public pharmacies in the area, is able to gain information about your medicine use from your own pharmacy. This information is then passed on to the nursing ward, where the doctor or nurse can discuss this with you. In order to work quickly and efficiently, the Bronovo Hospital pharmacy will assume that you have no objection to the request of this information. Should you object, please indicate so before your admission. During your admission, you will receive medication from the hospital. The treating physician will decide, having consulted with you, whether you can continue with the same medication or whether you require another prescription. For more information, you may contact the Pharmacy Service Point, telephone 070 - 312 43 17.

Hypersensitivity
If you have a hypersensitivity to medications, iodine or others, let your doctor or nurse know. They can take this into consideration for your treatment.

Medications
The Pharmacy Service Point also organises any medications that may be required upon discharge with your pharmacy.
Medication details are faxed to your pharmacy, so that you or your family can collect the medications on returning home. The PSP will give you a list to take home, detailing which medication, dosage and quantity you require. This is not a prescription!
