Bronovo Hospital receives Smiley for Paediatric Ward
Bronovo Hospital has earned a Smiley for its Paediatric Ward from the Dutch Association for Children in Hospital (Vereniging Kind en Ziekenhuis). This national association awards the Smiley quality mark to hospitals that make an outstanding contribution through their service to young patients and their parents. The Smiley stamp of approval indicates that the care provided at Bronovo’s Paediatric Ward satisfies all the criteria of the Association for Children in Hospital.Bronovo’s Paediatric Ward received a Smiley because it meets all of the following child-centred criteria: Parents may stay with their sick child at the hospital throughout the day and at night. Before an operation takes place, not only the parents but also the child can speak to an anaesthesiologist in preparation of the operation. At both scheduled and emergency operation, parents may remain with their child while the anaesthetic is being administered. Parents may also be present when the child wakes up after the operation. And last but not least, the parents receive written information about the healthcare rights of minors, in accordance with the Medical Treatment Contracts Act (WGBO).
The national Association for Children in Hospital was established in 1977 and advocates the best interests of the child before, during and after admission to hospital. The association aims to encourage hospitals to participate by awarding them a special distinction: the Smiley. This quality mark is given to paediatric wards, outpatients’ clinics and maternity wards. More information about the Association for Children in Hospital and the Smiley award is available at:
www.kindenziekenhuis.nl (in Dutch only).
Bronovo Hospital hopes to receive a Smiley for its outpatients’ clinic as well this year. The preparations for attaining this award are in full swing. The hospital also aims to receive a Smiley for its maternity ward in 2010.
